Reputation isn't everything...but it is SOMETHING!
If you've met me in person, if you "know" me, you know I'm a big motorsports fan. I'm an occasional, mid-pack racecar driver and I also work with a large motorsports entertainment company...
That company has been invited to bid on a very large project for a major manufacturer. Will they win the bid? I don't know at this point, but... And this is the point of this blog... Their REPUTATION got them the opportunity to bid.
This company does many different things, but not exactly what the project is asking for. Can they do it? Absolutely! But it was having relationships within the industry that allowed them to get the chance. They have "fans" within that manufacturer because of what they've done together in the past...because of their reputation. In business, getting your foot in the door is half the battle.
What is your company reputation? You have the opportunity to mold that reputation by your actions and your ethics. When you do it right, you'll quietly open the door for other businesses to refer to you. To offer you business. To give you chances to bid on projects.
In other words; build your reputation and you'll build your business.
