Knocking on the door of Greatness!

I was thiiiiiiis close to winning.

Quick recap; last weekend I raced the SaySomethingImportant.com Miata in the Central Carolinas Region SCCA 24 Hour autocross event. It was a LOT of fun and while I'm just an occasional visitor to their series, I'm still pretty serious to have a good showing. Despite my car not being "set up" for autocross, I figure that I know enough about driving it to get some decent times. This weekend was a great example of that.

Coulda, shoulda, woulda...

The way the event worked, you could make as many practice runs as you felt you needed, but you would have to declare an official run before you made the lap. Unfortunately, my fastest official run was half a second slower than my best actual pass. Damn.

The results page says:
1. DSP 162, Plymouth Neon 28.698
2. DSP 88, Mazda Miata 28.716

Just Eighteen THOUSANDTHS of a second between the two of us! 0.018 seconds. RATS!

You know what they say about Second Place...

We actually had six cars in our class and we were all separated by less than 0.5 seconds. Pretty tight competition. The kick in the heiney though; my best actual time was a 28.2xx...I actually whupped the entire field, but since I didn't declare that an official run before I made it, I have to settle for second place.

In fact, my unofficial lap was the fastest by any Miata at the event. Not too shabby.

So, keep your eyes peeled for the next adventure of the SaySomethingImportant.com Miata. We're close to the front...soooooo close!
